To Be no Passado
No passado simples, o to be tem duas formas: was (I, he, she, it) e were (you, we, they).
I was at the office. They were late.
Negativa e interrogativa seguem a mesma lógica do presente: He wasn't there; Were you happy?
There To Be
A estrutura there is e there are indica existência e corresponde a "há", "existe" e "tem".
There is a book on the table. There are three people waiting.
Diferentemente do português, a forma concorda com o substantivo que a segue.
Outros Tempos
No passado, usam-se there was e there were: There was a party last night.
No futuro, there will be: There will be a meeting tomorrow.
Com modais, mantém-se a estrutura: There might be a problem.
