Conjunções Coordenativas
As coordenativas ligam elementos de mesmo valor sintático.
And adiciona, but contrapõe, or alterna, so conclui e for justifica.
She studied hard, so she passed the exam.
Conjunções Subordinativas
As subordinativas introduzem orações dependentes da principal.
De tempo: when, while, before, after, as soon as, until.
De causa: because, since, as. De condição: if, unless.
Contraste
Although e though introduzem oração completa: Although it was raining, we went out.
Despite e in spite of exigem substantivo ou -ing: Despite the rain, we went out.
Confundir as duas estruturas é erro clássico: não se escreve "Despite it was raining".
